US filmfest to screen Iran film

Iran animation is to vie at AIFF.

Iran short animation ‘Pet Man’ has been scheduled to compete at the 27th Arizona International Film Festival (AIFF) in the US.

Directed by Marzieh Abrar-Paydar, the movie was produced in DEFC, the Iranian center for development of documentary and experimental cinema.

‘Pet Man’ tells the story of a pet shop owner who is sleeping in the shop. He sees himself in a scary cage with other animals. Trying to break the cage, he faces a barrier every time.

The animation has so far taken part at a number of international events, including the 40th Festival international du Court Metrage in France, the 21st Seoul International Cartoon and Animation Festival in South Korea and the 2017 edition of the Innsbruck Nature Film Festival in Austria.

‘Pet Man’ has won the top prize of the 2017 Largo International Film Festival in Switzerland, got a nomination for an award at the 10th Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival 2017, and went on screen at the 2017 Seoul International Extreme-Short Image & Film Festival (SESIFF) in South Korea, the 6th edition of the ClujShorts Film Festival in Romania, and was shortlisted among the top 15 in the 10th Canterbury International Animation Film Festival in the UK.

The Arizona International Film Festival is the oldest and longest running independent film festival in Arizona. Taking place yearly, film programs include a mix of shorts, children's films, feature-length films, documentaries and animation films.

The 27th edition of the AIFF is slated for April 18-29, 2018 in Tucson, Arizona, US.
